When done right, a good sequel can elevate an already awesome movie! We love movie franchises, like the Marvel superhero cannon, or Back to the Future, or James Bond! When we find a character that we love, we just can’t wait to see what they are going to get up to next, and that’s where a great second or third movie can come in. But sometimes, if they are made for the wrong reasons, a sequel can totally ruin a movie franchise. Often these second, third, or tenth instalments are pushed out by the movie studios way too quickly, in order to keep raking in the big money earned by the first smash hit. And usually, when money takes precedence over story and quality, the entire franchise suffers. There are so many movies that might have been better off left alone, or at least given more than a year of time to develop! Movies like The Mummy Returns, which was green-lit only a day after the first Mummy was released! Or James Bond: Quantum of Solace, which was rushed into production during the 2008 Hollywood writer’s strike. How about Superman 2, which was actually shot at the exact same time as the first movie, and then was almost entirely re-shot by a new director? There are so many more examples of sequels that could have been great, if only they had been given just a little more time. Check out the rest of the video to see them all!
