Cabride: The West Chester Railroad, Alco's in Chester County, PA Part 1

On October 23rd, 2011, me, Adam, and Kevin took a daytrip down to the West Chester Railroad. Located in West Chester, Pennsylvania in Chester County, about 45 minutes outside of Philadelphia, this railroad is an all Alco operation, with the exception of their one GP9, WCRL 6499. The railroad operates on a scenic 7.3 mile line between Market Street Station in West Chester and Glen Mills Station, this is the ex SEPTA West Chester Line, this line currently terminates in Elwyn of course. This operation runs push to Glen Mills (An ex Reading MU is used on the rear, ie the conductor blows the horn for crossings, guides the engineer via radio, as you'll hear in this video), and the engine leads back to West Chester. The unit being used on this day is WCRL C424 4230, which was built by MLW (basically an Alco made in Canada) in 1965 for CP as their 4230. We will chase this train in the next video, but for this video, we take a ride in the cab for the full round trip, watching as the 4230 smokes (as an Alco should!), rattles, and rolls through the beautiful Fall Foliage of Chester County, Pennsylvania (I apologize for the shaking in this video as well, the trackage on this line is rather bumpy) A big thanks to Adam Christman (CSX6000) for allowing me to have such a privilege!
